Mitsubishi have recently released the 2013 Triton and, as you might have already guessed, it definitely does not disappoint.
This beautiful behemoth has undergone some serious enhancements and improvements from last year’s model and Mitsubishi have really pulled out all the stops to make for a safe, secure, and all-round superb driving experience.
Key Features
The basic entry-level model is the Mitsubishi Triton GL Single Cab chassis 4×2 which features a robust 94kW/194Nm 2.4L petrol engine while the GLX model has been given an upgrade with the 100kW/314Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder diesel engine found in the Triton GLX Single Cab 4×2. All other GLX models including the Club Cab, Single Cab 4×4, Double Cab 4×2 and Double Cab 4×4 crank it up even further with the ‘Hi Power’ version which offers 131kW and 400Nm.
Visually, the Triton offers a real feast for the eyes, boasting side steps, body-coloured external panels, and a wonderfully comfortable cloth upholstery interior.
The interior also features silver flourishes across the instrument cluster, while the steering wheel and gear stick are wrapped in high-grade leather, resulting in a slick and stylish theme throughout.
You’ll also find a whole host of convenient features; power windows and mirrors, cruise control with steering wheel-mounted controls to offer the utmost control and visibility of your surroundings, while the air conditioning, quad-speaker audio system, and Bluetooth phone connectivity provide the ultimate in in-car entertainment, comfort, and convenience.
Moving back outside for a moment, the Triton GL-R boasts 16-inch alloy wheels, a rear step, and sports bar, while the GLX-R includes the addition of auto-folding side mirrors, fog lamps, and 17-inch alloys that will give you unprecedented confidence and control on the road.
Safety
Mitsubishi’s 2013 Triton range was awarded an overall score of 25.08 out of 37 by ANCAP crash testing measures.
Dual front airbags for both driver and passenger are included as standard, while Antilock brakes, or ABS, with electronic brake distribution, or EBD, are offered as optional extras on the entry-level models.
Pre-tension devices are also fitted to all of the seatbelts to reduce slack and minimize injury in the event of a crash or emergency stop.
The 2013 Triton has been awarded a final score of four out of five stars for its safety measures, providing good-to-marginal protection in front and side crash tests; this suggests that these measures provide an overall adequate level of protection to both driver and passengers.
Conclusion
All in all, Mitsubishi’s Triton line up certainly boasts some major improvements from previous years; the interior and exterior designs have both been given a great deal of attention and the inner workings of the car, including its workhorse engine, ABS, and EBS, have all been fine-tuned to deliver impeccable performance while providing some of the very best available in safety and security.
